As if tomorrow’s tram strike (due to the pay stalemate that continues between the Rail, Tram and Bus Union, Yarra Trams, and Metro) wasn’t enough, taxi drivers have now decided to get in on the action with a rally that will be taking place on the steps of State Parliament.

This will be the second tram strike in a fortnight, and the addition of taxi drivers looks likely to disrupt commuters even further by briefly removing another form of transport.

In what seems like a counterproductive move taxi drivers are gathering to protest the apparently illegal ridesharing service UberX, because an objectively better and more reliable service has taken over our streets. Boohoo. And now, for a good part of tomorrow it looks like Uber will be one of the very few available (if probably unusually expensive) options for Melburnians to get around, so there’s that.

The tram strike will take place between the usual time of 10am and 2pm, with services expected to be disrupted before and after the four hour timeframe. See Yarra Trams for full information about tomorrow’s disruptions.
